Driven by a voice that visits Elvis Costello, Ben Lee, Tom Waits and Anthony Kiedis (and despite Ellis’ apologies for the endearingly slap-dash live production), his set worked. He’s a smart guy like that. So smart, in fact, he remembers to bring to a performance the soul that dumber smart guys usually leave at home on the nightstand, right next to whichever Tom Robbins novel they’re reading for the fourth time.
